ASL Practice

Thursday, November 19 at Twin Oaks Branch, Austin

Twin Oaks BranchFree

About this event

ASL Practice is not an American Sign Language class, but rather a place to fine-tune your ASL in a relaxed environment under the guidance of an ASL-signing facilitator. Participants will need to know a little ASL to participate.

What to expect

This is practice, not instruction. Participants sign with one another under the guidance of a facilitator who signs. The setting is relaxed, and the session is meant for fine-tuning skills you already have. You will need to know a little ASL to take part. The library runs it as part of its Language Practice offerings, which also include English and Spanish conversation groups.

Why go

Signing is easy to lose without people to use it with, and options for practice in Austin are limited. Here you get a regular, low-pressure place to keep your skills up, with a signing facilitator in the room. The Twin Oaks Branch is a South Austin library near South Congress and South First. It opened in 2010 in a brick building with reclaimed timber trusses.
