Who's playing
TechMex Austin organizes the day. The program includes a welcome from the Consul General of Mexico in Austin and a keynote from Jorge Pliego of Improving. Panels bring in speakers from UT Austin, Software Guru and Casa Potrero, plus Hugh Forrest, the former president of SXSW. Seven community members give short talks on AI and entrepreneurship.
What to expect
The day moves between rooms. Talks and demos run in the Black Box and the Auditorium. A Mexican brunch and the cultural showcase happen out in the Zócalo, the center's plaza. The Innovation Expo has live demos from startups, and the pitch competition features six Mexican-led or Mexico-rooted companies. A People's Choice vote lets the audience weigh in. The showcase has live music, ballet folklórico and a Día de Muertos ofrenda dedicated to technology, and the day closes with giveaways and networking.
Why go
This is a tech conference that treats culture as part of the work, and you don't need a tech job to follow it. The festival has grown from 250-plus people in 2024 to 350-plus in 2025. This year it moves to the MACC, on Lady Bird Lake beside the Rainey Street district, which is a better fit for the Día de Muertos season than a downtown ballroom.
