FIASCO!
Thursday, October 29 at Chess Club, Austin
About this event
FIASCO! is a night of drag performances and DJ sets at Chess Club, the Red River Cultural District bar in Austin. Louisiana Purchase, Tatiana Cholula, Jenna Talia, MK ULTRA and Kyle Lewis are on the bill, with more guests to come. The Austin Chronicle lists it as a horror-themed Halloween party.
Who's playing
The lineup is Louisiana Purchase, Tatiana Cholula and Jenna Talia, who bring the drag, plus MK ULTRA and Kyle Lewis on the DJ side. The Austin Chronicle also names Fenner for DJ spins and a resurrected guest, Bubu. The bill adds that more performers are still to be announced.
What to expect
Live drag numbers are mixed with DJ sets, and the Chronicle mentions go-go dancing. It bills the night as a horror hurrah with haunting drag, so costumes and spooky looks fit the mood. Chess Club is a small room of about 100 people, which keeps the performers close to the crowd. It has a full bar and an outdoor patio, and there are no chess boards.
Why go
Chess Club opened in 2022 in the former Plush space on Red River, from the team that once ran Barracuda. It books live music every night it is open, mostly local acts. FIASCO! is a good way to see the room at its most playful, with a themed drag and dance night in the middle of downtown Austin's music district.
