What to expect
The Art Garage camps usually include two or three art projects a day, drawing on techniques such as canvas painting, clay, collage and mosaic. Exact projects for the Frida Kahlo day aren't published, so expect work inspired by her art. Kids should wear clothes that can get messy, since some materials stain. The studio can run cool, so a sweater helps. Camp is screen-free.
Why go
A one-day camp is an easy way to try The Art Garage without committing to a full week. The studio has run camps in Austin for more than 15 years and staffs them with working artists and certified art teachers. The founder was an Austin ISD art teacher, and the camps are built around real lesson plans. Many campers return year after year.
