About this event
Looking for a meaningful way to spend an afternoon with your kids? Join Generation SERVE for Family Volunteer Day, a free event celebrating a national day of service. Come curious and leave inspired! Families will move from table to table and work on hands-on projects that support local nonprofits. Projects cover all eight of our service areas: Animal Welfare, Arts & Culture, Basic Needs, Education & Literacy, Environment & Sustainability, Health & Wellness, Senior Support, and Youth Services. Project facilitators will guide kids through each activity, and you’ll meet the community partners who benefit from your work. Projects are designed for youth ages 3–18. Generation SERVE sparks a love for volunteering that inspires youth to grow into community-minded leaders. Through hands-on projects with local nonprofits, kids and families volunteer side by side and build a lifelong habit of giving back. How to RSVP New to Generation SERVE? New families who would like more shift options and service hours recorded can register with us before RSVPing. 9 to 5 Book Drive Celebrating Dolly Parton Drop off new or gently loved children’s books at Family Volunteer Day and be part of something bigger than one afternoon. Every book collected will go to BookSpring, one of Generation SERVE’s community partners, which works to get books into the hands of local kids. Dolly Parton is known for her lifelong love of butterflies, books and giving back. In her honor, every book you donate becomes a small wingbeat: one story that can spark a child’s imagination, build their love of reading and ripple out across our community. For this event, we are collecting only board books, children’s picture books and youth chapter books. Good to Know Family experience: At least one adult must volunteer side by side with their kids. Child drop-off is not allowed. No strollers or wagons: For space and safety reasons, strollers, wagons and carts are not allowed in the main event hall. Getting There: There is paid underground parking at the library. You can also park at City Hall or at metered spots on nearby streets. Free bike parking is available around the library, and we encourage you to use available public transportation. Questions? Email contact@generationserve.org or text (512) 358-6943.
