About this event

Visit Ghost Pepper Gallery's group art show from October 1 through November 7 and immerse yourself inside the mind of local artists interpreting the iconic movement of Surrealist Art! Surreal Times reflects on what surrealism means in current times. Whether paying homage to traditional surrealism as an art form and incorporating it in contemporary work, or portraying what surrealism means to the artist as an individual of this generation, the show will display a wide variety of artworks through different art mediums like glass, painting, photography, mixed media, and more. OPENING RECEPTION - SAT, OCTOBER 10, 5-8PM Join us at Ghost Pepper Gallery for the opening of Surreal Times! Explore the magic behind each artwork, meet and greet the participating artists, learn more details about their work, and enjoy complimentary beverages while you find your favorite piece in the show. Free to attend. Please note we are closed on Mondays, so this exhibition is only from Tuesdays-Sundays, and Sundays are from 2pm to 6pm.

Who's playing

The show draws on 16 Texas-wide artists, among them Alex Van Zelfden, Candy Hahn, Carol Hayman, Keith Moy, Kimberly Berriochoa and Riley McGarity. Some pay homage to traditional surrealism. Others use the movement to say what surrealism means to someone of this generation. The gallery is run by coordinator Lily Vega, who aims to give emerging and established artists room to experiment.

What to expect

A gallery visit at your own pace, with work in glass, wood, acrylic, photography, mixed media and more. An opening reception gives a chance to meet participating artists, hear about their pieces and have a complimentary drink. The gallery sits inside Travis County's only public access glassblowing studio, so the building's craft is part of the setting. Pieces are also for sale, if one sticks with you.

Why go

Group shows with a single theme let you compare many takes on one idea in one room. This one is entirely Texas artists, and the mix of glass with painting and photography suits a venue built around handmade work. It runs for several weeks, so you can fit it around your schedule. The gallery is closed Mondays.
