Hyperreal Film Club · East $8-15
About this event
Hyperreal Film Club screens the best in cult/genre/arthouse/independent film Monday-Friday at our clubhouse in downtown East Austin. Head to hyperrealfilm.club for our full schedule and to buy tickets. See you at the movies!
Who's playing
Hyperreal Film Club was founded in 2016 by David McMichael, Jenni Kaye and Tanner Hadfield. For years it ran pop-up screenings at places like the Paramount Theatre, Violet Crown Cinema and Hotel Vegas. The clubhouse opened in 2024 and gave it a home of its own. The October lineup has included Suspiria, The Wailing, Pieces, Teeth and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, along with special guests and community collaborations.
What to expect
The clubhouse is a small neighborhood theater with a screening room, lobby, popcorn and cold drinks, and a balcony lounge for before and after. Features are usually paired with short films by local filmmakers, and someone often introduces the movie. The crowd is chatty and friendly. Programs run Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend extras like shorts showcases and filmmaker Q&As.
Why go
Few places in Austin program this kind of film almost every weeknight, and in October the horror picks suit the season. Tickets are sliding scale, so the club is easy to try on a whim. The full calendar is on the club's own site, so you can choose the title that appeals to you.
