Patrice Pike

Pike came up in Austin as the front woman of Little Sister, which became Sister 7. Their song "Know What You Mean" reached the Billboard charts. She went solo after the band split, won several Austin Music Awards and joined the Texas Music Hall of Fame in 2007. She also makes records with her old bandmate Wayne Sutton as Pike and Sutton, and she co-founded the Step Onward Foundation.

A 90-minute set on the Saxon's corner stage, with the audience only a few feet away. The Saxon bills the residency as a night where no two weeks are quite alike. The room is wood-hewn, with chairs angled toward the stage and booths around the edges. It is a songwriters' room, so people mostly come to listen.

Few Austin artists stay in one room this long, and a residency lets you hear Pike somewhere small. The Saxon opened in 1990 and has a long record of launching and hosting Austin musicians. A weekly slot there is an easy way to catch a local name in a room that suits her voice.
