Terry Bowness – Organ, Piano Joel Frahm – Saxophone Bruce Saunders – Guitar Daniel Durham – Bass Tom Brechtlein – Drums Terry Bowness has been making music in Austin, Texas since 1997, first as a pianist, and more recently on Hammond B3 organ. Soon after arriving in Austin he joined Los Jazz Vatos, the latin jazz sextet led by Texas drum veteran Ernie Durawa and winner of several Austin Chronicle music awards. Between 1999 and 2013 he composed, produced, and released four albums of original music on Aardvark Records, garnering positive reviews and radio airplay across the globe. Terry continues to perform as a sideman with many Austin-area musicians and bands including Mitch Watkins, Bruce Saunders, Brian Pardo, Andre Hayward, Gerry Gibbs, Kevin Witt’s B-Side, The Tommy Howard Organ Trio (with Tom Brechtlein), and Elias Haslanger’s Church on Monday. Terry graduated from UT Austin in 1997 with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and has since designed many integrated circuits for mobile phones and other consumer and industrial products. His work on mobile phone audio amplifiers has been heard by billions of people worldwide. Please Note: MONKS JAZZ IS NOW A FULL SERVICE BAR. As part of this transition, Monks Jazz is no longer a BYOB venue. We invite you to enjoy our thoughtfully curated beverage menu and roll with us through the changes! Who's playing

Terry Bowness has played in Austin since 1997, first as a pianist and more recently on Hammond B3. He came up in the Austin Chronicle award-winning Latin jazz sextet Los Jazz Vatos and released four albums of original music on Aardvark Records. He is also an electrical engineer, and his phone audio amplifier designs have been heard worldwide. The quintet is Joel Frahm on saxophone, Bruce Saunders on guitar, Daniel Durham on bass and Tom Brechtlein on drums.

What to expect

This is a live taping, so the room runs on a whisper policy. Monks is an intimate studio and event space with a small stage and seating close to the band, and the sound is recorded and streamed. The club is now a full-service bar with a curated drink menu. Expect an attentive crowd and a set that gives the organ, sax and guitar room to stretch.

Why go

Monks began as a pop-up listening room and won Best Virtual Listening Room from Austin Chronicle readers in 2021. It is a calmer alternative to loud bars and large halls, with a mostly local lineup of jazz players. A leader with deep Austin roots and a band of this caliber suits the room well.
