Who's playing
Cupcake (Brady Faucett) and Riotgirl (Xana Jayne) are the local drag performers behind RIOTCAKE. Riotgirl directs, and Cupcake stars alongside Martin Lager as Lady Grackle. Fabiola López-Nevárez is musical director, and a cast of a dozen more fills out the show. Austin Rainbow Theatre, a LGBTQ+ company now in its third season, sponsors in part.
What to expect
This is a new take on the story, not a screening, with live singing and vocal responses from the audience. The production uses strobe lights and smoke machines. Highland Lounge spreads across three stories with six bars and a patio, so the show sits inside a full nightlife venue. The run covers three weekends in October and ends on Halloween night.
Why go
Rocky Horror has always worked best as a loud, participatory night, and a drag-led cast suits it. Highland has hosted drag shows since it opened downtown in 2014. For Halloween-season theatre in Austin with a queer, local slant, this is a fitting pick.
