Allisen & The Wy's Guys
Thursday, October 29 at C-Boy's Heart & Soul Bar, Austin
About this event
Allisen and the Wy's Guys @6:30pm - No cover. 21+ only. Allisen and the Wy’s Guys are a new group out of Austin featuring singer Allisen Hinojosa and bandleader Wyatt Corder of Big Wy’s Brass Band and his talented group of seasoned musicians. The group plays everything from intimate jazz, raucous soul and hard hitting blues.
Who's playing
Allisen Hinojosa sings, and Wyatt Corder leads the band. Corder also fronts Big Wy's Brass Band, and he has brought in seasoned musicians for this group. The band's own material includes singles billed under the Austin soul banner. They also do an Amy Winehouse tribute set. The range runs from intimate jazz to raucous soul and hard-hitting blues.
What to expect
An early set of live soul, jazz and blues in a neighborhood club that books music seven nights a week. C-Boy's looks back to the 1960s and the Rome Inn, the old Austin club run by L.C. "C-Boy" Parks. There is a big outdoor patio with vintage shuffleboard. Upstairs is the Jade Room, a cocktail lounge styled after 1950s Japanese GI bars.
Why go
C-Boy's comes from the people behind the Continental Club, and soul and R&B are what the room is for. A band that moves between jazz and blues suits it well. It is a good way to hear a local group early in the evening on South Congress.
