Who's playing

Ventana Ballet is a professional contemporary ballet company founded by AJ Garcia-Rameau. She directs, choreographs and designs the lighting and audio, and she also dances in the show. The cast is local theater and dance artists. They play Dracula, a Huntress, a Witch, a Werewolf, a spider sidekick, and a pack of zombies. The Witch is the show's narrator and its most talked-about character.

What to expect

The show runs about an hour with no intermission. It is built around the Huntress and her pursuit of Dracula, with a dark passage, pre-show haunts and zombie games before it begins. Performers work on stage, off stage and in unexpected corners of the room. A spooky cocktail bar and a zombie raffle are part of the evening. The content is rated R. It includes strobe lights, fog, sudden loud noises and adult humor.

Why go

This is ballet played for laughs and chills, and it is a different kind of Halloween plan than a bar crawl. The production is in its eighth year, and a local critic called it "an evening of unearthly elegance." ESPA is a white-box theater on the east side with tall ceilings, and it suits a show where the audience sits close to the action.
