About this event
The Bee Cave Arts Foundation invites you to their upcoming Urban Art & Pop Art Exhibition, celebrating contemporary creativity inspired by city life, popular culture, fashion, music, advertising, graphic design, comics, typography, and the imagery that shapes our everyday world. Pop Art transforms the familiar into something unexpected - drawing inspiration from consumer culture, mass media, celebrities, nostalgia, and bold color palettes. Whether your work is playful, ironic, graphic, or thought-provoking, we encourage fresh interpretations of this enduring and influential style. We are thrilled to welcome the incredible J Muzacz as our juror and curator for this exciting exhibition! J is an innovative public artist with a keen eye for social dynamics. Committed to building positive relationships with clients and collaborators through compassionate communication. Originally from Texas, Muzacz went on to live and work abroad, painting murals worldwide from Japan to New Zealand and beyond. Now based in Austin, Texas, Muzacz dedicates himself to community building through teaching, mentoring, and creating spaces for artists to uplift each other. Muzacz has created over a dozen large-scale mosaics and co-founded The Mosaic Workshop, an artist-run mosaic studio in East Austin. The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, October 10, 2026 – 1:00 p.m. and runs through November 6, 5:00 p.m.
Who's playing
J Muzacz selected and curated the show. He is an Austin public artist who has painted murals from Japan to New Zealand and made over a dozen large-scale mosaics. He co-founded The Mosaic Workshop, an artist-run studio in East Austin, and teaches and mentors other artists. His community mosaic projects invite hundreds of people to help place glass tiles.
What to expect
The work is open to many mediums, including photography, and it takes on pop art's habit of turning familiar things into something unexpected. Expect playful, ironic, graphic and thought-provoking pieces drawing on celebrities, nostalgia, typography and mass media. The art is for sale, and an opening reception launches the show. The gallery is a community art center beside Dillard's, with student work and a children's art area as part of its regular mix.
Why go
A juried show curated by a working muralist gives a picture of what local artists are doing with pop imagery right now. The Bee Cave Arts Foundation is a nonprofit that has run exhibitions since 2009. It is an easy stop for art in the Hill Country west of Austin, and you can browse pieces by Central Texas artists that are for sale.
