Who's playing

The tabla player Gourisankar leads the first set with sitarist Indrajit Banerjee and accordionist Jan Fleming. Gourisankar founded the School of Indian Percussion and Music in Austin. Pamela Hart, billed as the Queen of Texas Jazz, brings her trio for vocal jazz. The Paul Klemperer Trio, performing as My Exotic Other, plays saxophone-led global jazz with world beat arrangements.

What to expect

The school has run World Music Unleashed as an annual event since 2011, and it doubles as a fundraiser for the nonprofit school. Expect a mix of acoustic Indian classical interplay and jazz. The Sunset Room is a gallery-style space with exposed brick, wood rafters and oak floors, in a building that keeps much of its 1930s character. The bar pours cocktails, whiskey, beer and wine, and tapas are served on site.

Why go

Tabla, sitar and accordion together is not a pairing Austin audiences hear often. Pamela Hart and the Klemperer trio add a local jazz side to the night. The venue is a short walk from the Convention Center and Sixth Street, so it is easy to pair with other plans downtown.
